Excellently staged and you may wisely dialogued, it has zero great problem from inside the traditions down the very unsightly term.” [ 8 ]

Month-to-month Motion picture Bulletin told you “The movie motions during the a simple rate, the latest talk try slick and you can characterisations basically productive. Cobb), and you can a great scuffling celebrity (Evelyn Keyes) whose aunt (Nina Foch) has worked at gambling establishment and you can old a great corrupt investigator (Jim Bannon). The latest caustically epigrammatic software, the latest cast’s suavely managed gestures out-of love and you can hazard, and you can Rossen’s thrillingly controlled and you can fashionably cocky pictures (also their political conscience) get this to pugnacious yet detailed spectacle a hidden vintage of your own genre.” [ 10 ]
